Italy's Talent Density Top 50: The Scale-Ups Hiring the Best Teams in 2026

In September 2026, Nova published Italy’s first Talent Density Top 50 built specifically for tech scale-ups: 50 companies across AI, FinTech, Space, DeepTech and other frontier categories, ranked purely on the quality of the people currently on their payroll. Not funding raised, not headcount growth, not brand recognition. If you haven’t read what Talent Density actually measures, that’s the plain-language explanation behind every number in the table below. Read the table top to bottom, or jump straight to your own company’s name: every row stands on its own, scored on the same scale.

Circeus tops this list as the single highest-scoring company Nova has indexed in Italy, and Bending Spoons isn’t far behind in second. Below them sit 48 more tech scale-ups spanning AI, FinTech, Space, Cybersecurity, HealthTech and more, all scored the same way and compared only against each other, inside Italy.

This is the closest thing to a data-backed answer for which are the best tech scale-ups to work for in Italy right now, ranked by actual hiring quality rather than funding round size. For founders and recruiters competing specifically for AI, FinTech or deep-tech talent, this list is the most direct comparison available anywhere in Italy today. Here’s the full list, the patterns worth noticing once you read all 50 rows together, and what to do next if your own company isn’t on it yet.

A quick reminder on how the Talent Density Index works

Every company’s Talent Density Index is the average score of the employees Nova has indexed for it, rescaled so the strongest hiring in that market sets the ceiling. In Italy’s tech scale-up ranking, Circeus sets the pace at the top of this scale, posting the highest score in the data set at 70.1.

In practice, that means Circeus’s 70.1 acts as this list’s ceiling, not a literal 100. Every other score reflects how close a company’s hiring comes to that top mark, not a fixed, universal bar nobody in Italy’s tech scene has actually reached.

The scoring itself, the pillars behind every individual employee’s number, and exactly how the rescaling works, is covered in full in Nova’s Talent Density methodology breakdown. We won’t repeat all of that here, just the part you need to read the table below.

Italy is one of seven markets Nova covered in this September 2026 launch. Spain, the UK, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany and France each got their own 50-company ranking too, and Mexico rounds things out as an earlier pilot market launched separately. Every list stays independent, built and scored only from companies inside that one country, so nothing here stacks Italy up against any of the others.

Which tech scale-ups make Italy’s Talent Density Top 50?

Fifty tech scale-ups make Italy’s first published Talent Density ranking, from Circeus at #1 to Serenis at #50. The list spans AI, FinTech, Space, Cybersecurity, HealthTech and more, all scored on Nova’s same 0-100 logic and ranked only against each other, inside Italy. Use the Category column to find peers in your own space, and the Index column to see how close a company’s hiring comes to Circeus’s pace-setting score.

What patterns stand out in Italy’s Top 50?

Three things stand out once you read all 50 rows together instead of just the top of the list. AI shows up repeatedly across the ranking, space and deep-tech categories appear more than once, and the gap between the top and bottom of the list runs wider than in other markets Nova has ranked. Categories vary widely too, from AI and Space to LegalTech and AgriTech, 28 different categories across just 50 companies.

The top two spots come down to two tenths of a point

Circeus leads at 70.1, with Bending Spoons right behind at 69.9, a gap of just two tenths of a point separating the top two companies on this list. One competes in AI, the other in Software, and together they set the ceiling every other company here is measured against.

A gap that small at the very top says the competition for the best hiring in Italy’s tech scene starts right from #1. Neither company has much room to relax before the other closes the distance between them.

AI shows up repeatedly through the list

Six of the 50 companies on this list compete in AI: Circeus (#1), AIKO (#3), Axyon AI (#4), Domyn (#6), indigo.ai (#8) and Altilia (#17). All six land inside the top 20, not scattered toward the bottom.

That concentration near the top matters for anyone hiring AI talent in Italy specifically. If you’re competing against any of these six names, you’re up against some of the highest-scoring hiring on this entire list.

Frontier categories like space and deep-tech repeat across the list

Two frontier categories repeat across this ranking: space tech and deep-tech. Leaf Space (#19), D-Orbit (#35) and ARGOTEC (#39) all build in space, and CrestOptics (#38) sits alongside Caracol AM (#44) in deep-tech.

None of these five sit at the very bottom of the list either. If you’re hiring against any of these names for space or deep-tech talent in Italy, that’s the kind of bench you’re actually up against.

The score band widens more toward the bottom of the list

Nova hasn’t published a wider top-to-bottom spread in any market so far than it has here. Serenis closes the list at 45.0, about 25 points under Circeus’s leading 70.1, with most of that distance concentrated in the final two rows, where Unobravo and Serenis both trail Tundr’s score at #48.

That doesn’t say anything about Italy’s tech sector as a whole, only about where these specific 50 companies land relative to each other. Fifty companies can still cover a wide range of hiring intensity, even within one country’s own tech scene.

What if your company isn’t on this list?

Only 50 tech scale-ups fit on Italy’s first published ranking, and plenty more hire well in the country’s tech sector. Not being on this list says nothing about your own hiring quality: it only means you’re not yet one of the 50 highest-scoring tech scale-ups Nova has ranked in Italy. That’s true whether your company sits in AI, FinTech, Space or any of the other categories represented across this specific list.

The fastest way to find out where you actually stand is to look yourself up. Nova’s Talent Density tool lets you search your own company directly and see your number, plus how it compares against named competitors hiring in the same category.

A few things worth doing once you have that number:

  • Search your own name directly, rather than guessing from the rank list. A number outside the top 50 still beats not knowing where you stand at all.
  • Compare against three named competitors in your own category, not the market as a whole, since that’s the comparison candidates and investors actually make.
  • Revisit it after your next hiring wave. Indexing is ongoing, and this table is a snapshot, not a permanent scoreboard.

If the number tells you something you don’t love, the useful next step isn’t panic, it’s a plan. Our guide to benchmarking your company’s talent quality walks through what to do with a Talent Density score once you have one, from where to check first to which area is actually pulling your number down.

The bottom line

Italy’s Talent Density Top 50 is the first fully public version of this ranking built specifically for the country’s tech scale-ups, using Nova’s own index rather than a survey anyone had to answer honestly. Circeus and Bending Spoons set the pace at the top, AI shows up repeatedly through the list, and the gap between #1 and #50 runs wider here than in other markets Nova has ranked, from Space to DeepTech to HealthTech.

Whether you came here because a competitor mentioned their score, or because you’re simply curious where your own company lands, the honest next step is the same: look yourself up and see the real number.

Frequently asked questions

What is Italy's Talent Density Top 50?

It ranks 50 tech scale-ups, AI, FinTech, Space, DeepTech and similar categories, purely by the caliber of the people already on their payroll today. It's part of Nova's Talent Density launch, public since September 2026, and every company on it is measured only against the other 49 names on this same list.

How does a company qualify for Italy's ranking?

Nova scores every professional it indexes across a set of pillars, then averages those scores per company into a Talent Density Index. The exact components and the logic behind them are covered in Nova's Talent Density methodology breakdown, worth reading before comparing your own company against anyone on this list.

What does a Talent Density Index score actually mean?

A company's score is its average employee rating, rescaled so the top performer in that market becomes the reference point. Circeus holds that reference position in Italy's ranking, and every other score shows how a company's hiring compares against that single highest mark, not a fixed universal target.

Is Italy's ranking compared against other countries?

No. Every company here is scored only against the other tech scale-ups hiring in Italy. Italy is one of seven markets where Nova published this ranking in September 2026, and each country gets its own separate list.

Why does this list only include tech scale-ups?

This particular Top 50 answers a narrower question: which tech scale-ups, AI, FinTech, Space, Cybersecurity and similar categories, have built the deepest bench of high performers in Italy. It isn't a cross-industry list, and every entry competes in a tech-adjacent field.

My company isn't in the Top 50. Does that mean our hiring is weak?

No. This particular ranking only has room for 50 names, and Italy's tech sector includes plenty of strong hiring beyond them. Search your own company directly to see its real number, then benchmark it against named competitors in your category rather than against this top 50.
